About the formats
PNG
PNG is the standard lossless format: perfect quality, full transparency support, and universal compatibility. Its weakness is size — photographs saved as PNG are often 5–10× heavier than a visually identical JPG or WebP.
JPG
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported image format ever made — every camera, phone, program and website accepts it. It compresses photos efficiently but doesn't support transparency, and each re-save at low quality degrades the image a little more.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose transparency when converting from PNG?
Converting to WebP keeps transparency. Converting to JPG replaces transparent areas with a white background, because JPG has no alpha channel — that's a limit of the format, not of this tool.
Does converting to JPG reduce image quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at a high quality setting the difference is invisible to the eye — and the file gets much smaller, ideal for photos and sharing. Pixloc lets you set the quality with a slider and adds a white background, since JPG has no transparency.
Are my files really private?
Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using its built-in image engine. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by any server — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and keep converting.
